Top Ten Coolest Horror-Themed Singers
Music brings out all kinds of emotions, including the darker ones. Some music includes haunting lyrics, a composition that borders on the morbid, and a singer that is just a little bit creepy. If you like gothic, hard rock, or even just eerie pop, here is a list of the top ten coolest horror-themed singers and bands that you can listen to.
- Ozzy – He made be hard to understand during a conversation, but the Prince of Darkness was one of the first to have a horror-themed image. This was helped along by all the controversies and rumors that surrounded him. I mean, come on, he bit the head off both a bat and a dove just for kicks.
- Rob Zombie – Okay, he may not be one of the more horrific onstage presences but with his films and the last name, he’s got enough creepiness about him to make it onto the list. His original band White Zombie was even named after a Bela Lugosi film. If his music doesn’t scare you, his movies will.
- Marilyn Manson – The make-up and contact lenses alone are enough to creep you out. Then you add in the eerie, pulsing music, garbled lyrics, and nightmarish videos, you got yourself one weird musician. Definitely one of the more controversial horror-inspired rock artists.
- Alice Cooper – Before there was Marilyn Manson, there was Alice Cooper, the Welcome to my Nightmare guy. He was the first to bring elements of horror to the rock and roll stage. His shows featured decapitated dolls, fake blood, and crazy stunts.
- Scary Kids Scaring Kids – I know they don’t look very scary compared to others but they have a cool name. Their music, though, is a blend of emo pop and hardcore. Their lyrics are just creepy enough to give them a spot on this list.
- GG Allin – Without a doubt one of the most unhygienic performers to ever hit the stage. Allin was known to urinate and defecate onstage, roll around in it, injure himself and keep performing despite bleeding everywhere, and other unwholesome acts. That is pretty extreme, even for punk rock.
- Misfits – One of the earlier punk rock bands that started back in the late 70’s. They were known for performing wearing face paint depicting skulls and corpses. A lot of their songs and stage shows inspired later bands.
- Mushroom Head – A heavy metal band that was just way too weird to look at. Made up of members from different bands, the group took to wearing horrific masks and costumes to hide their identities. They even took on fake names such as Gravy and Pig Benis.
- Dimmu Borgir – Hailing from Norway, their name means “Dark Cities” or “Dark Fortress” in Icelandic. Their music can be described as extreme black metal in its heaviest form. With albums such as Death Cult Armageddon and The Devil’s Path, the band has a definite satanic-inspired image.
- GWAR – This thrash metal band just about tops them all for elaborate performances. The band is known for their crazy sci-fi costumes and for throwing fake bodily fluids on their audience. They are also just about the most politically incorrect band out there.
