Top Ten Halloween Costumes
You never really outgrow dressing up in a costume for Halloween. Sure, the kids love it but adults can get just as much fun out of it, too. Some people get really elaborate with their outfits but for the most popular, check out this list of the top ten Halloween costumes that you will find just about anywhere.
- Witch – Witches have always been popular costumes for Halloween. I mean, come on, their image can be found everywhere from bubbling cauldrons to riding their brooms through the sky. If you get the fake nose, warts, and makeup, you can go all out.
- Dracula/Vampire – The classic Bela Lugosi cape with red tie and tuxedo shirt just never goes out of style. Get some plastic teeth and a little fake blood and you’ve got a vampire straight out of a Hammer film. Modern vamps can dress in a black trench coat and wear pale makeup.
- Ghost – This has to be the simplest costume ever. All it requires is a bedsheet and a pair of scissors. Just make sure the bedsheet is white and doesn’t have little ducks on it.
- Princess – Little girls dream of being a princess. When they grow up, why should they stop dreaming? Halloween is just a great excuse for grown women to live out their little girl dreams of being royalty.
- Pirate – Argh, matey, give me all yer candy! With an eyepatch and a fake parrot on your shoulder, you are ready to plunder some candy. Pirates have always been cool but since Johnny Depp played one (what was his name again?) pirates have been even more popular.
- Superhero – From Batman costumes to Superman costumes to Wolverine costumes, superheroes are not just for kids. Kind of like the Princess costume, it is a chance for grown-ups to live out their childhood fantasies. Just don’t go jumping off rooftops.
- Monster – A really dedicated fan of Halloween and everything that is horror is going to dress up as a monster. It might be a ghoul or it might be a serial killer from one of those slasher movies. Usually, the more horrifying, the better.
- French Maid – Sometimes it is just about sex appeal and for that, we have the little French Maid costume. With the short skirt and fishnet stockings, a woman is ready for some…um, cleaning. There are several versions depending on how sexy you want to be.
- Devil – Like the witch, the devil has always been associated with Halloween. The typical costume features a red devil’s mask with horns and maybe a cheesy black mustache (where did that come from?). You also get to carry around a pitchfork and poke people with it.
- Fairy – Fairies have become more popular in the recent years. You get to wear those wings, carry a wand, and sprinkle glitter all over you. Just remember that afterwards, you have to clean it all off or you will sparkle for a week.
