Top Six John Landis Movies
John Landis is mostly known for his movies from the 70’s through the 90’s. He had directed a number of successful movies including some great horror flicks. If you are a fan of his work, here is a list of the top six John Landis movies from his thirty year career in Hollywood.
- An American Werewolf in London – Probably the most well-known of Landis’ forays into horror. Two teens get attacked by a werewolf while hiking in the UK. The one who survives finds out he has been infected with the werewolf curse.
- Twilight Zone: The Movie – Based on the television series, the movie was an anthology of weird short stories. Landis directed the opening scene and first segment, featuring a bigoted man who mysteriously finds himself jumping around in time where he takes on the roles of a Jew, a black man, and an Asian man, all being persecuted for their race. Landis was also held responsible for a terrible accident on the set.
- Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” – When the King of Pop decided to make a unique video for his Thriller album, he approached Landis to do it. The video featured the walking undead and had Jackson being turned into a moon-walking zombie. The video was a huge hit and changed the way music producers would approach video production.
- Innocent Blood – In 1992, Landis returned to the horror genre with this vampire flick. A female vampire feeds on the city’s criminal element, thus getting her required nourishment while making the city a safer place. When she bites a crime boss and doesn’t get to finish the job, he comes back and turns his crime outfit into the walking undead.
- Masters of Horror: “Family” – Masters of Horror is a series of films by a group of directors for Showtime. Landis directed this one episode where a couple move into a new house and meet their neighbor. But their neighbor is a crazed killer who has created a family from the skeletons of his victims.
- Masters of Horror: “Deer Woman” – Another episode from the horror series that was directed by Landis. This episode revolves around a Native American legend about a ‘deer woman’. When truckers start turning up dead, it appears the legend is true.
