While vampires are all suave and seductive, werewolves embody the more primal side of things. You’re not likely to see a werewolf making long speeches or flirting with members of the opposite sex. In fact, they’re just as likely to rip their heads off and give nothing more than a growl. For your enjoyment, check out this list of the top 10 werewolf movies.

10. The Company of Wolves – A series of short tales featuring such acting greats as Stephen Rea and Angela Lansbury. If you’re looking for cool werewolf transformation scenes, you’ll want to check this one out.
9. Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – Sisters Ginger and Brigitte Fitzgerald are back in this Ginger Snaps prequel. Taking place in Canada in the 19th century, the two girls seek shelter in a trading outpost. What they don’t realize is that werewolves are on the loose, but they’ll find out soon enough.
8. Underworld – Kate Beckinsale looks amazing in this story about the war between vampires and werewolves. The first of a trilogy, and more films may follow.
7. Silver Bullet – Based on a novella by Stephen King, Corey Haim plays a wheelchair-bound kid who becomes convinced that a local resident is actually a murderous werewolf. When the werewolf realizes this, he sets his sight on silencing the boy. Gary Busey to the rescue.
6. Ginger Snaps – Lycanthropy is heavily tied to the female menstrual cycle in this inventive Canadian film. Kind of a chick flick, but it was popular enough to inspire two sequels.
5. Wolfen – Albert Finney stars as a cop investigating a series of brutal murders. While the killer isn’t technically a werewolf, he’s close enough to warrant inclusion on this list. Also starring Edward James Olmos and Gregory Hines.
4. Dog Soldiers – British soldiers go on maneuvers in the forest and encounter a pack of hungry werewolves. How do machine guns match up against lycanthropes? Watch this one and find out.
3. The Wolf Man – Lon Chaney Jr. plays Larry Talbot, a likable man who falls victim to the curse of the werewolf. One of the classic monster movies from Universal Studios.
2. The Howling – A female reporter tries to get away from it all at a special retreat. What she doesn’t realize is that the place is filled with werewolves. Excellent special effects by Rob Bottin, and it’s got Slim Pickens.
1. An American Werewolf in London – A werewolf attack leaves one American tourist dead and another wounded. Sure enough, the bitten young man becomes a werewolf himself and begins a murder spree in London. A groundbreaking transformation scene and a soundtrack filled with every cool song written about the moon.
