Top 10 Vampire Movies

Vampires have held our imagination for years. From terrifying monsters to cool and sexy seducers, there is something fascinating about them. A lot of movies have portrayed vampires in a number of ways but here is a list of the top ten vampire movies.

  1. 30 Days of Night – With a month of no sunlight, Alaska is the perfect place for vampires to roam around. This is what the residents of a small isolated town discover when the sun disappears for thirty days. The bird-like movements of the vamps make them all that more terrifying.
  2. Salem’s Lot – Based on a book by Stephen King, it tells the story of a vampire and its servant that moves into an old house in Salem’s Lot. When the population starts disappearing and more vampires show up, it is up to a small group of survivors to kill the master vampire.
  3. Interview With The Vampire – Based on the book that started the whole gothic vampire craze, it follows the soul-searching vampire Louis in his journeys. Brad Pitt was the perfect fit to portray the moody Louis. However, it was Tom Cruise as the charismatic Lestat that stole the show.
  4. Lost Boys – One of the best teen movies from the 80’s and still a cult favorite. A single mom and her two boys move to California and the oldest of the boys falls for girl. Unfortunately, she belongs to a gang of young rebellious vampires.
  5. Bram Stoker’s Dracula – Francis Ford Coppola tried to remain faithful to the original Bram Stoker novel. In it Dracula buys property in London and moves there to pursue a young woman resembling his long dead wife. Dr. Van Helsing and his group fight off the Count and chase him back to Transylvania.
  6. Nosferatu – The original silent film has always remained a classic. The stark sets and deformed features of the vampire are perfect for black and white German expressionism. Despite its age, the movie has remained an inspiration for today’s vampire stories.
  7. Shadow of the Vampire – This is a fictional story about the making of the silent film Nosferatu. In it, the crew thinks the actor playing the vampire is very strange and too deeply immersed in his character. Only later do they realize that the director has hired a real vampire.
  8. Near Dark – Not one of the more popular vampire movies but it is still a cult favorite. A man is bitten by a beautiful woman and transformed into a vampire. She gets him to join their gang but he refuses to kill and then goes renegade when they try to kidnap his sister.
  9. Let The Right One In – This Swedish film is a great story about friendship and early love. A young boy who is a social outcast befriends a young girl next door. When it turns out that she is a vampire, the boy is still loyal to her.
  10. The Horror of Dracula – One of the early Hammer films and the first in a series portraying Count Dracula. The great Christopher Lee plays the evil Dracula. Filmed in 1958, this is still a great flick with a cast that helped develop the horror genre.
