Top 10 Universal Movie Monsters »

The year 2000 was the start of a new millennium, and it also brought on a wave of better-than-average horror flicks. For your reading pleasure, I’ve listed the top 10 horror films of 2000 below.
10. From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter – Learn the origins of Santanico Pandemonium and the final fate of Ambrose Bierce in this better-than-expected film. Starring Michael Parks, Rebecca Gayheart and Temuera Morrison.
9. Blood: The Last Vampire – An anime film which pits a female vampire against a new breed of bloodsuckers shortly before the start of the Vietnam War. Based on a manga, so you know it’s gonna be bloody.
8. Dracula 2000 – Gerard Butler plays Dracula, and Christopher Plummer is Van Helsing in this update of the Dracula legend. Lots of fine women in this one, including Jerri Ryan and Jennifer Esposito.
7. Scream 3 – The ghost-faced killer is back to once again terrorize Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell). This time around, he’s also killing off the actors starring in a movie adaptation of the novel by Gail Weathers (Courtney Cox).
6. Wild Zero – Zombies are on the loose in this crazy Japanese film. The movie also stars Guitar Wolf, the hardest rockin’ band from the Land of the Rising Sun.
5. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust – D is a vampire hunter, but he also happens to be half vampire himself. The son of Dracula, he sets out to rescue a young woman supposedly abducted by a vampire in this Japanese anime.
4. Ju-on – A murdered housewife places a curse on anyone who strays across her home. Released straight-to-video, Ju-on inspired a number of sequels and American remakes.
3. Ginger Snaps – A pair of goth sisters must confront the horrors of lycanthropy when one of them is bitten by a werewolf. Decent amount of humor and teen angst to go along with the horror.
2. Final Destination – A group of high school kids cheat the Grim Reaper, but he’s not one to easily give up. Several sequels have followed, and the death scenes keep getting more and more inventive.
1. Shadow of the Vampire – A director decides to cast a real vampire in his film about a bloodsucking nobleman. As you might imagine, crew members start disappearing one by one. Starring Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich.
