« Top 10 Animals Gone Wild Movies

The ‘70s were a great decade for horror. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre came roaring into theaters to scare moviegoers witless, and the slasher film saw its birth with such films as Black Christmas and Halloween. In this edition of Best Horror, we’ll be taking a look at the top 10 horror films of 1977.
10. The Car – While many people think it sucks, a cult following has developed around this car-on-a-rampage film. James Brolin is a small-town Utah cop who must stop the car’s bloody rampage. Also starring Ronny Cox.
9. The Uncanny – Peter Cushing and Ray Milland star in this film which weaves three tales of terror involving cats. In fact, it turns out that cats pretty much call the shots on Earth, something which I’ve long suspected.
8. Alice, Sweet Alice – Brooke Shields makes her screen debut and is promptly strangled and set on fire. A small figure in a raincoat is killing people, but is it young Alice (the girl who everyone suspects)? Oddly, this film was released three different times under three different names, with the last being in 1981.
7. Audrey Rose – A bizarre film about reincarnation, supposedly based on a true story. The film stars Anthony Hopkins, Marsha Mason and John Beck. Based on the novel of the same name.
6. The Town That Dreaded Sundown – Tells the real-life story of The Phantom Killer, a man who murdered five people in 1940’s Texarkana, Arkansas. Starring Ben Johnson and Dawn Wells. It’s also interesting to note that the real-life killer was never caught.
5. Demon Seed – An artificial intelligence wants to make a baby and come out into the real world. It decides to knock up Julie Christie, so it’s obviously an A.I. with good taste. The film also stars Fritz Weaver and Lisa Lu.
4. Rabid – David Cronenberg directs this film starring late porn star Marilyn Chambers. After receiving experimental skin grafts following an accident, a woman develops a stinger under her arm. This is used to feed on the blood of others, and those stung later become crazed zombies.
3. The Sentinel – Based on a novel by Jeffrey Konvitz, it tells the story of a fashion model who moves into a very odd brownstone. Blind priests, portals to hell, and much more await. Starring Cristina Raines, Chris Sarandon, John Carradine, Martin Balsam, Burgess Meredith, Jose Ferrer and Ava Gardner.
2. The Hills Have Eyes – The second film directed by Wes Craven, The Hills Have Eyes tells the story of a family stranded in the middle of nowhere and their battle with a savage clan of mutated cannibals. A remake was later made, and both films were then redone in the 21st century.
1. Suspiria – The finest film from director Dario Argento, Suspiria is considered one of the true classics of the horror genre. The first film in The Three Mothers trilogy, it’s about an American ballet student who goes to a dance academy in Italy. Needless to say, plenty of bodies start piling up once she arrives, and Argento isn’t stingy when it comes to the blood and gore.
