Top Ten Vampire Comic Books

Vampires go with comics like Rob Zombie and a big old bottle of fake blood. The bloodsuckers have appeared in comics for decades, all the way back to the old horror comics of the 1950’s’s and 60’s. For some comics that have really stood out from others, check out this list of the top ten vampire comic books.

  1. Blade – Marvel Comics’ original vampire hunter got a boost in popularity with a movie starring Wesley Snipes. As a vampire hybrid known as The Daywalker, he makes the perfect hunter. Plus he just looks cool in those sunglasses.
  2. Buffy: The Vampire Slayer – Cute girls, high school, and vampires: what more could anyone ask for? The television series boasts a huge fan following. It was major drama when the series was cancelled but fans were appeased with a continuation of the story in comic form.
  3. Vampirella – The original seductive vamp is known for her sexy red swimsuit. Created by Warren Publishing back in 1969, she was a host to horror anthology stories. Later, fan boys got their dream when they got to see her as the main character in her own stories.
  4. 30 Days of Night – This indie comic was a runaway hit that later inspired a film. It took the concept of vampires who have to live in darkness and gave it a twist. When vampires come to Alaska during a month of darkness, they make a buffet out of a small town.
  5. Dark Days – The sequel to 30 Days of Night that continues the story of one of the survivors from the first series. Stella writes a book about the events in Alaska and attracts unwanted attention from a group of vampires. But all she wants is her dead lover back.
  6. Vampire Hunter D – The anime of the same name is a classic. It features a half-vampire hunting his blood-sucking kin in a futuristic medieval setting. There have been several manga published and Devil’s Due Publishing recently bought the rights for a mini-series.
  7. Crimson – Back in the 90’s. Humberto Ramos created one of the most memorable vampire series that featured a young boy turned into a vamp against his will. He takes up with an ancient vampire and must stop the evil Lilith from bringing out the end of the world. Features some cool art and a really great storyline.
  8. Impaler – A combination retelling of Bram Stoker and an apocalyptic survival story. After a boat full of dead bodies shows up in New York harbor, a detective investigates a series of murders. Soon he and a supernatural vampire hunter named Vlad must survive a vampire infestation that takes over New York.
  9. Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter – Laurell K. Hamilton’s best-selling novels are brought to bloody visual life in the comic series. It features the main character, a cop named Anita Blake who is a licensed vampire executioner. Full of not just vampires but werewolves and other creepy things that go bump in the night.
  10. Angel – Angel was a successful spin-off of the tv series Buffy and the comic has proved equally as successful. They were originally published by Dark Horse while the series was still on the air. Later IDW Publishing picked up the rights and published the series that continued the television show’s storyline.
