Top Ten Marvel Zombies
I thought Quentin Tarrantino was the only one who did over-the-top stories but that was before I read Marvel Zombies. In the vein of George Romero, we get to see the heroes and villains of the Marvel universe fall victim to a plague that turns everyone into flesh-eating zombies. There are a lot of great moments but for the best characters, here is a list of the top ten Marvel Comics zombies:
- Sentry – Sentry makes this list for one reason only: he started it. The most powerful hero in Marvel Comics gets the blame for spreading the zombie plague. As the first zombie, he infects the Avengers.
- Giant Man – What makes Giant-Man so cool is he still has all his scientific knowledge along with is flesh-eating cravings. In one scene, he monologues about it to a victim (who is a close friend) about being “zombiefied”. Plus he turns into a giant zombie which is so cool.
- Colonel America – Our flag-wearing American idol as a zombie is just so wrong. At one point he is walking around and talking while missing the top of his head. He later buys it when the zombie Red Skull eats his brain.
- Iron Man – Imagine the smell when he removes his armor. That has got to be nasty. But old Shell head is dedicated as ever, even when he asks Wolverine to throw him back into the fight after he has been torn in half.
- Spider Man – Peter Parker always has wise-cracking remarks going on. That is one of the things about him that makes his series great. And even as a zombie, his mouth is still running: for brains!
- The Hulk – The thought of the Incredible Hulk, a radiated, invulnerable behemoth with super-strength as the walking undead is just hilarious. He was already hard to stop before he turned into a zombie. The best scene is when he uses his Hulk teeth to bite the head off a well-known, chrome-looking surfer dude.
- Wolverine – Logan is already a homicidal maniac. What do you think is going to happen when he gets a taste for living flesh? He already has his own set of steak knives he carries around with him.
- Luke Cage – One of the grossest scenes was seeing Luke Cage holding up a handful of bloody flesh like a trophy and eating it. As one of the main characters, he gets to chomp on the Silver Surfer and Galactus. Also, I like that they kept his classic 70’s costume with the yellow shirt costume and silver headband.
- Wasp – For once we see Janet Pym interested in something else besides figuring out which of her many costumes to wear. Too bad for her victims it just happens to be eating flesh. She ends up as a talking head, asking Black Panther for just one bite.
- Black Panther – Okay, he didn’t turn into a zombie but here is why he makes the list. He got his foot and his arm cut off and eaten by his good friend Giant-Man. Apparently, Mr. Pym was rationing Panther, eating bits here and there.
