Top Ten Marvel Comics Demons

The Marvel Universe is full of more than just costumed superheroes. A number of demons and other interdimensional beings make their residence there. For some of the more popular characters who require a dimensional green card, here are the top ten Marvel comics demons.

  1. Cthon – One of the Elder Gods and the first black sorcerer in the universe. He wrote down all of his mystical secrets in a nasty tome called the Darkhold. It has been coveted by many over the years and nothing good ever came from its pages.
  2. Mephisto – The ruler of the land of the dead and Marvel’s version of Satan. His main goal is to create as much evil havoc in earth as possible. One of his best tricks is capturing the souls of heroes.
  3. Kazann – One of God’s angels that rebelled against him along with Lucifer. Once banished to hell, he took on the name Kazaan and plotted with his heavenly brother Malachi to gain control. He tried to unleash hell on earth but was stopped by the Ghost Rider.
  4. Asmodeus – A subordinate of Mephisto and enemy of Ghost Rider, he has clashed with the skull-headed motorcycle rider many times. His goal has been to try to gain control of the spirit of Ghost Rider. He has a weasely servant named Saturnine that does the dirty work.
  5. Lilith – The Mother of All Demons, Lilith was so evil that she was imprisoned centuries ago by the sorcerers of Atlantis. However, a couple of scientists unwisely freed her so she could wreak havoc on the mortal world. She has mothered several demons who are completely obedient.
  6. D’Spayre – One of the Fear Lords, he is drawn to victims suffering from despair. Those strong emotions make him stronger and he is capable of manipulating his victims to increase their dark feelings. He is a frequent enemy of Dr. Strange who has kicked his butt every time.
  7. Dormammu – One of the more powerful as well as troublesome demons in Marvel comics. He has tried repeatedly to take over the mortal world, particularly New York (why is it always New York?) but he is always thwarted. He often enters into bargains with other powerful beings, such as Mephisto, but is usually thwarted by Dr. Strange.
  8. Daimon Hellstrom – Also known as The Son of Satan, Hellstrom is the offspring of a demon and a mortal woman. His Darksoul gives him several magical abilities but also gives him a dark side which he hides. Despite his heritage, he has always strived to hold onto his human side.
  9. Satannish – The father of Daimon Hellstrom, Satannish is a demon who grants wishes in exchange for your mortal soul. He has a separate face where his stomach should be and is himself the son of Dormammu. He recently helped get rid of the invading Skrulls in the UK.
  10. Ghost Rider – The skull-headed biker from Hell, Ghost Rider is made up of the entity known as Zarathos who possesses a human host. The original and best known Ghost Rider was stuntman Johnny Blaze. He made a deal with Mephisto in order to save his stepfather but naturally got screwed.
