We’ve already taken a look at the Top 10 Stephen King novels, so how about the movies based on these novels? That’s right, it’s time for the Top 10 Stephen King movie adaptations. If you haven’t already seen these films, rush right out and get them. And even if you’ve seen them, you might enjoy watching them all over again.

10. The Mist - A strange mist descends onto a town, and the locals quickly start getting killed by someone or something inside. Starring Thomas Jane, this is definitely one to avoid if you like movies with a happy ending.
9. Apt Pupil - Ian McKellen as an elderly Nazi? Sign me up. His character lives in obscurity until a nosy local boy begins digging into his past.
8. Cujo – This lovable St. Bernard looks so huggable…that is, until he starts using the neighbors as chew toys. Dee Wallace Stone stars.
7. Pet Sematary – Sometimes, dead is better. That’s the basic premise of this film about a cursed burial ground where the dead come back to life. Fred Gwynne steals the show as Jud Crandall.
6. Stand By Me – Directed by Rob Reiner, this coming of age film concerns a group of boys who take a trip to see a dead body. Starring Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, River Phoenix and Kiefer Sutherland.
5. Christine – John Carpenter directs this tale of a boy’s relationship with a possessed 1958 Plymouth Fury. Starring Keith Gordon, with Harry Dean Stanton and Kelly Preston putting in an appearance.
4. Dead ZoneChristopher Walken looks appropriately haunted as the psychic Johnny Smith. Martin Sheen is also excellent as an insane political candidate.
3. The Shining – While Stephen King reportedly disliked this version by Stanley Kubrick, it’s still an excellent look at one man’s descent into madness. Jack Nicholson really gets to ham it up as the deranged Jack Torrance.
2. Misery – James Caan plays Paul Sheldon, a novelist involved in a near-fatal car wreck. He’s rescued and nursed back to health by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), a woman who happens to be a deranged fan of Sheldon’s. Bates and Caan both shine in this Rob Reiner film.
1. The Shawshank Redemption – Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. As the years pass by, he befriends a fellow inmate named Red (Morgan Freeman). All the while, Andy plots his escape from Shawshank State Penitentiary. An incredibly moving film, and the ending should please almost everyone.
